Wonderfully opportune that this hit steps/crossed desk today! …and yes, it’s a harbinger of something that’s in the works. Anyway, HBD Johnny!

Remember that bit at the end of the last post about more details coming very soon? Apropos of all that, I am deeply honored to announce that I’ll be performing on September 15th at Labyrinth 2012, at Naeba Greenland in Niigata, Japan. “Stoked” does not even begin to encapsulate it.

After two years of brutal, compulsive, and life-ruining unmaking/remaking, I am thrilled and relieved to announce that the next Bee Mask LP, titled When We Were Eating Unripe Pears is now in production and scheduled for a Fall 2012 release on Spectrum Spools. The record will be mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at D&M and will feature photography and design (the above being a sneak preview thereof) by Mark Price.
Additionally, Bee Mask will be performing at Skaņu Mežs in Riga, Latvia on October 13 and at Unsound in Krakow, Poland on October 20.
Further details on all fronts coming very soon…
So, when I was in Sydney a couple weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to have time to visit 2ser FM to guest on Spiral Sounds, where I was interviewed through a punishing haze of jet lag (nb: “punishing haze”) and spun a selection of classic recordings that are especially important to me and to the general weltanschauung (nb: killer loanword) of Bee Mask.
Anyway, I mention all of this now because Dan and James at Spiral Sounds have alerted me to the fact that the show is now available to stream, with tracklist. In the interest of full disclosure, I have not listened to it, because the idea of listening to myself being interviewed feels a bit “off”, but at least I know that the records are sick because I picked them. Enjoy!
Okay, so a ton of news at once! I’ve got a new 12” forthcoming on Room40; two loooong new cuts featuring guest vocals from Autre Ne Veut and Katherine Brady! Cuts are happening now and we’re likely on course for a mid-summer release. In the meantime, you can catch an excerpt from the A-side, “Vaporware”, here.
In related business, I’ll be coming to New York, the west coast, and Australia in June. Itinerary as follows:
As usual, there’s a ton of other nonsense in the works that I may or may not remember to mention here, including spinning recs with Headboggle on Radio Valencia sometime before the gig on 6/10 and a lot of sitting around being stupid from jet lag. See you there!
Oh, and speaking of “see you there,” Voice of the Valley 2012 is locked for August 17-19 at Indian Meadows Campground, Pentress, WV. Whole cohort jamming as usual.
Finally, because as of right now it’s the only sort of internet presence I can seem to wrap my head around with any regularity, I should point out that I’m on Twitter. Right before tour would be a great time to get up on that if you like pictures of vanity plates, pithy complaints about airports, and me shrugging in response to questions about set times.
Two quick notes: first, anyone who missed my performance at The Bunker back in December (or anyone else for that matter) can check a deep stretch of it in the current edition of their podcast.
Second, the legendary Form a Log reconvenes in Philly on March 21, with Bee Mask also on the bill. More news as it arrives!
Motto Disco 01: KUEDO - SINKING IN THE DATATANK MIX (link)
Beautiful mix, and big thanks to Jamie for including one of my tracks. Check it if you haven’t already, and while you’re on the early afternoon mix grip, I should let you know that Finn Johannsen’s all-electro ssg special is a total ripper.
Okay, back into the work abyss; new full length shaping up nicely, ableit slowly. For those of you in/around Philly, I’ll be taking part in (which is to say “stumbling blearily through”) a panel discussion on the legacy/influence of the Sonic Arts Union, immediately prior to David Behrman’s performance at International House, Saturday 1/21.
