So, since the last post, I’ve been to Europe and back, had a killer hang in Montreal at Suoni per el Popolo, moved house to spectacularly disorienting effect, and buried myself in the studio for a couple months… As usual, there’s probably a lot of news that I’m forgetting to mention, but for now, two things.
First, I’m happy to announce that I’ll be performing in support of Oneohtrix Point Never at Our Lady of Lebanon Cathedral in Brooklyn, NY on September 17. This is both the release event for OPN’s forthcoming R Plus Seven LP on Warp Records and part of the Wordless Music series, presented in cooperation with Le Poisson Rouge. Further details and tickets are available here.
Second, I’m equally thrilled to say that the Donato Dozzy Plays Bee Mask 2x12”, in which Donato repeatedly flips “Vaporware” as only he can, is now available from Spectrum Spools. Thanks to the Quietus, Resident Advisor, and electronique.it, among many others for the kind words thus far!
May 28: Misery Beat at Whelans, Dublin, Ireland. With Eyvind Kang, Jessika Kenney.
May 29: Triskal Arts Centre, Cork, Ireland.
May 31: Arnolfini, Bristol, UK. With Mika Vainio, Sensate Focus.
June 1: BleeD at Cafe Oto, London, UK.
June 3: Dæpth at O, Milan, Italy.
June 5: Cave12, Geneva, Switzerland.
June 7: Optimo at Sub Club, Glasgow, UK.
June 19: Casa del Popolo, Montreal, QC. With Mist.
…while I was thanking people for things that happened recently, I almost forgot to mention that Luke Younger (aka Helm) featured “Rain in Coffee” in his edition of the Blowing Up the Workshop mix series. By the way, for anyone who hasn’t checked it yet, Helm’s Impossible Symmetry is brilliant stuff.
So, yeah, it’s been a bit quiet on this front, but there’s lots in the works as usual, about which more later. Things that have happened while I’ve been away include an interview for the Quietus, another interview for Resident Advisor, some year end picks and related nods for Pears and Vaporware (thanks to Jason Anderson/DRAFT Records, Geeta Dayal for Frieze, Rory Gibb for the Quietus, Rabih Beaini for Ruptured, Boomkat, Further Records for Boomkat, Lawrence English for Collapse Board, Philip Sherburne for Spin, Brandon Bussolini for Dusted and LWE, and Sam Davies and Adam Harper for the Wire, among others), and me hitting hibernation mode cleaning my attic very slowly and making lissajous figures all day. For what it’s worth, I didn’t make a list because I could hardly figure out where to start; I simply can’t remember another year in which I heard as many brilliant new records as I did in 2012. Thanks everyone who made them, and thanks especially to John Elliott, Peter Rehberg, and Lawrence English for helping me make my own!
But anyway, I digress; the first major announcement of 2013 is that I’m now working with Ollie Seaman at Elastic Artists for bookings in the UK, Europe, Australia, and Asia. For those of you keeping score at home, that means that it’ll be much easier to get me to come to wherever you are this year; hope to see you there!
Those test pressings above? I’m thrilled to inform you that they sound fantastic, thanks to the hard work of Rashad at D&M and everyone at Pallas Group. This means that we’re off to the races, so to speak: When We Were Eating Unripe Pears is now available for preorder from Editions Mego!
Speaking of being off, I’m off to Latvia and Poland in a few days; hope to see you at Skaņu Mežs and Unsound!
